Notice of Public Review and Public Hearing for Draft EIR

DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT

NORTHGATE HIGH SCHOOL

STADIUM LIGHTING PROJECT

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Governing Board of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on the Northgate High School Stadium Lighting Project and is commencing a 45-day public review period.  NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that at a special Board Meeting on October 6,  2009, the Governing Board of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District will hold a public hearing to consider input from the public on the Draft EIR.

The purpose of this EIR is to evaluate environmental consequences that would result in replacing the temporary bleachers, upgrading the public address system by adding two additional speakers, and lighting the football field at Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, California.  The school is located at 425 Castle Rock Road, eastern Walnut Creek, in Contra Costa County.  As required by Section 15126 of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) guidelines, this EIR focuses on those issues which have been identified as having potentially significant impacts due to the proposed project:  traffic, circulation, and parking, noise, air quality and greenhouse gases, aesthetics, light and glare, and public services.

The 45-day public comment period will commence on September 8, 2009, and end on October 22, 2009.  The public hearing will be held on October 6, 2009, during a special meeting of the Governing Board, commencing at 7:00 p.m., at Northgate High School located at 425 Castle Road, Walnut Creek.  Members of the public may attend the public hearing and testify on the adequacy of the Environmental Impact Report. Written comments and any other communication concerning this matter should be directed to Pete Pedersen, Assistant Superintendent, Administrative Services, Mt. Diablo Unified School District, at 1936 Carlotta Drive, Concord.  Responses to the oral and written comments will be included in the Final EIR that will be considered by the Governing Board at a later hearing.

Copies of the Draft Environmental Impact Report are available for public review at the District Office, at the District website www.mdusd.k12.ca.us, and at the Ygnacio Valley branch of the public library located at 2661 Oak Grove Road in Walnut Creek.
