Home & Hospital is a service for students who are ill or injured and unable to attend school for more than two weeks. We also serve students with special needs who are being assessed during the pre-expulsion process. This program allows a student to keep up with his or her studies so he or she can return to the classroom successfully.
We serve students from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. Our students have a wide variety of skills.
Each Home & Hospital teacher serves an individual student for five hours per week, generally in the students home with another adult present. Teaching appointments are mutually arranged between the teacher and the student.
We pay the hourly rate of $25 and mileage is also covered.
Our teachers must have a credential and we may not hire anyone with an Emergency Credential per Ed Code.
We are very short of teachers and need to serve all of these very special students. We particularly need high school teachers but can use all grade levels.
Many retired teachers participate and teachers also take on students after their work day. Of course, the best arrangement is a student's own classroom teacher but that is not always possible.
