SPECIAL BOARD MEETING: May 20, 2008

ATTENDANCE:

Board: April Treece, Dick Allen, Gary Eberhart, Linda Mayo, Paul Strange
Budget Advisory Committee: Karen Barta, Jim Cordice, John Ferrante, Bart Krasner, Keith McMahon, John Parker, Jenny Reik, Mark Roddenberry, Chris Steiger-Maguire, Norma White

Administrative Staff: Superintendent Gary McHenry; Associate Superintendent Alan Young; assistant superintendents Roger Bylund, Gail Isserman, and Dick Nicoll and General Counsel Greg Rolen

1. CALL TO ORDER: President Treece called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the MDUSD Dent Center.

PUBLIC COMMENT: None

CLOSED SESSION: The Board adjourned to Closed Session at 5:31 p.m. in Room 6 at the Dent Center to discuss the Superintendent’s Evaluation.

2. RECONVENE OPEN SESSION: The Board returned to Open Session in the Board Room at the MDUSD Dent Center at 6:30 p.m. President Treece led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

3. PUBLIC COMMENT: None

4. STUDY SESSION, BOARD AND BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Board and Committee members discussed the following:

1. The impact on the District budget after the Governor’s May Revise figures were announced

2. The need for additional budget reductions

3. The list of possible budget reductions and additions to the list
Board action: Eberhart moved, Strange seconded, and the Board voted 5-0-0 to add: Reduce legal fees through the use of the Request for Proposal (RFP) process.

4. The budget development process including a review of program budgets

5. ADJOURNMENT
Treece adjourned the meeting at 9:35 p.m.
