Important Mello Roos Senior Tax Exemption Information

Regarding 2016 – 2017 Property Tax – Mt. D Mello Roos $67.00 Senior Exemption Charge

The financial company that audits our Mt. D Mello Roos senior exemptions had a computer error that deleted all of our senior exemptions granted on properties before 2011.

They have solved the issue, and are reinstating all of the senior exemptions to tax payers who have been previously granted exemption from the Mt. D Mello Roos tax TODAY, Friday, September 23, 2016.  If you have already been granted the senior exemption, and it is now back on your property tax bill in error, you will be receiving a letter of apology and assurance that your exempt status will remain on your property.  Also included will be an explanation as to how the issue will be resolved moving forward.

You will also be receiving a corrected property tax bill with the $67.00 Mt. D Mello Roos charge removed.  We understand that it has been upsetting for people to find the $67.00 charge back on your tax bill after so many years, we apologize that this has happened and please be assured that the error will be corrected today.

As a homeowner, go ahead and pay your property tax bill at face value as you would normally.  You do not want to be late on payment.  Your corrected tax bill will arrive sometime during the 2016-2017 tax year.  Either the second installment will be adjusted to reflect the removal of the $67.00 Mt D Mello Roos or a refund of the $67.00 will be returned to the exempted property tax payer if you prefer to pay in one lump sum.

Update September 26, 20016:

Corrected tax bills will be mailed in one to two weeks from today which means seniors will receive the corrected bill well before the due date of the first tax installment.
