Message from the Superintendent:
Last night we discussed with our Board of Education a plan for a regional magnet in the area of North Concord. This plan will use three themes at the three local schools to create a collaborative community that builds upon skills students will need as they prepare for colleges and careers. Holbrook will be a school working toward dual immersion with an emphasis on languages, Sun Terrace will emphasize Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, and Wren will focus on the Visual and Performing Arts. Students who live in the area of these three schools will have an opportunity to attend any of the three campuses. Holbrook is slated to select their principal at the beginning of this year and reopen in 2017-2018.
I thank the Board of Education for approving the investment into the community and supporting the students whose neighborhood school was closed. Historically, schools that have been closed do not reopen. We are excited to have this rare opportunity to reopen Holbrook for the community as well as provide a magnet opportunity for North Concord and the District at large.
Many voices were listened to as we worked to create something that would serve students well. We received many suggestions from a variety of sources. I look forward to the exciting opportunity to create a model that will enrich students as well as provide pathways according to interests. The investment of resources in the reopening will provide students with tools for the future while providing the community of Concord with even stronger schools.
