Universal Benefits Application

Income qualification via Universal Benefits Application (UBA) is required to receive SUN Bucks for some households. See Income Eligibility Guidelines, HERE. You do not need to complete this form if your student(s) is/are Directly Certified. That means we receive their name directly from California because they participate in public assistance through a program like CalFresh or CalWORKs and they will automatically receive SUN Bucks.

All applications are subject to verification. If you are selected for verification, your response is required. Failing to do so will disqualify your household for SUN Bucks.

Please note the Universal Benefits Application is separate from the Household Income Form. Some households will complete both. The Household Income Form does NOT qualify for SUN Bucks. If you have questions, please contact Food & Nutrition Services at 925-682-8000 x3775 or foodservicessec@mdusd.org.

Flyer with department Mission & Vision Statment

The California Universal Meal program continues in the 2025-2026 school year. All students may collect one breakfast and one lunch during the school day at no cost. Your enrolled student is already set up to receive these meals. No action is required.

Every school in MDUSD qualifies for Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Food & Nutrition Services is accepting TWO forms, 1. Household Income Form, 2. Universal Benefits Application. Household Income Forms are collected from all MDUSD households. The Household Income Form can be filled out in HomeLink or contact your school office for a form. Universal Benefits Applications are collected ONLY
from households who would like to be considered to receive SUN Bucks (California's Summer EBT program) and who are NOT Directly Certified. If your household is Directly Certified you do NOT need to
complete this form, your benefit will be issued automatically. If you are unsure if your household is Directly Certified, call us at 925-682-8000 x3775.

Though Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications are prohibited, households who would qualify for the Federal program continue to be captured via Household Income Form and UBA. Any additional
benefits (Summer EBT cards, no-cost or discounted SAT, ACT, AP testing fees, discounted utilities and
cable, etc.) still apply.
