Environmental Safety: Protecting Our Students and the Environment

At MDUSD, ensuring the safety of our students and staff goes hand-in-hand with protecting the environment they grow and learn in. We are committed to using sustainable practices, reducing our environmental impact, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all.

Our Ongoing Commitment

We continually educate our staff on the best environmental safety practices and ensure that our facilities meet or exceed state and federal safety standards. By doing so, we contribute to both the well-being of our students and the sustainability of our community.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Green and Sustainable Practices
We prioritize the use of eco-friendly cleaning products and environmentally responsible materials throughout our facilities. This commitment helps create healthier indoor environments while also reducing our ecological footprint.
  • Proper Disposal of Hazardous Materials
We are dedicated to safely removing and disposing of hazardous waste, including Asbestos, in accordance with all legal guidelines and safety standards.
  • Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)
We adhere to the AHERA Management Plan, conducting regular inspections and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations for the safe management of asbestos-containing materials.
  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Energy Efficiency
Maintaining high indoor air quality is essential to fostering a productive and healthy learning environment. In addition to IAQ, we work to minimize energy and water consumption, which not only supports student health but also allows us to allocate funds to more critical needs like educational resources.
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
All new district buildings are constructed following LEED principles, an industry-standard framework for environmental design that emphasizes energy efficiency, sustainability, and resource conservation.
