Vision Statement

MDUSD is committed to preparing its students for college and career.  We will provide students with access to rigorous, relevant and technical experiences to bridge academic and career knowledge and skills, including effective communication, community collaboration, complex thinking and self-directed learning. In these experiences, students will acquire a strong sense of the role they play in the workplace and the changing global society, while developing problem-solving skills to address challenges in everyday life.

What is a Career Pathway?

A career pathway is a series of courses (at least 250 hours) connected to a specific career field, such as health care, engineering, or digital media. Each pathway ends with a capstone course, where students apply what they’ve learned in real-world settings with support from teachers and industry partners.

Why Choose a Career Pathway?

  • Courses are taught by teachers with industry experience

  • Many classes meet “a-g” college entrance requirements

  • Some pathways let students earn college credit in high school

  • Students get hands-on learning connected to careers

  • Real-world opportunities include guest speakers, job shadows, site visits, and internships

Career Pathways in MDUSD

Students can explore their interests in eight different industry sectors:
Art & Digital Media • Automotive Technology • Building Trades • Education • Engineering & Manufacturing • Health Care • Hospitality & Tourism • Information & Communication Technology

Partners in Student Success

Our schools work closely with local businesses and community partners to keep skills current with today’s workplace and to provide meaningful opportunities for students. These partnerships help students see the connection between school, college, and careers—and give industry leaders a chance to mentor the workforce of the future. If you are interested in joining MDUSD's Career Partner Advisory Board, please visit our Mt. Diablo Business Education Alliance page.
