MDUSD offers digital media pathways to help students explore their creative, communication, and critical thinking skills. According to the California Department of Education, the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry sector requires perhaps the greatest cross-disciplinary interaction because the work in this sector is largely project-based, requiring both independent work and interdependent management skills for career success. New technologies are also constantly reshaping skill sets of many arts career pathways. Consequently, arts-sector occupations demand constantly varying combinations of artistic imagination, metaphoric representation, symbolic connections, and technical skills.

Students in the Art & Digital Media Pathway develop a strong foundation that combines academic learning, hands-on creative practice, and the development of essential twenty-first-century skills. By strengthening their adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills, students are prepared to meet the demands of today’s creative industries. This pathway equips them not only with the technical expertise to produce high-quality digital work, but also with the confidence and versatility needed to succeed in college, the workforce, and an ever-changing digital landscape. MDUSD digital media pathways include instruction in graphic design, product design, photography and animation. In these pathways, students may have an opportunity to provide digital media services to community partners, learning how to meet a client’s needs. Industry partners include Red Dog Graphics, the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, Sunvalley Mall, and Calitho.

The Art & Digital Media pathways offer engaging and comprehensive courses that immerse students in the exciting world of multimedia creation and distribution. Through hands-on projects and lessons, students explore a wide range of techniques and technologies including:

  • Photography

  • Videography

  • Graphic Design

  •  Animation

  • Audio Production

Students gain practical skills in using software tools to edit and manipulate digital media, while also learning about concepts like digital storytelling, social media marketing, and analyzing trends in the digital media landscape. The pathway equips students with the essential abilities needed to thrive in the ever-evolving realm of digital media.
