AAPAC Mission: The mission of the African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) is to engage the African American/Black families of the
Mt. Diablo Unified School District through information, communication, and education of resources, policies, and programs the effect the
education outcomes of African American students. It is our goal to empower the lives of all African American/Black children and families by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to advocate for a high-quality educational experience.

The another priority is to develop a reporting system for staff and students to report incidents of bias and racism to ensure they are addressed. If you have experienced one of these interactions please contact Dr. Francies at FranciesL@mdusd.org

2024-25 MDUSD AAPAC Composition:
For the 2024-25 school year the AAPAC general meeting will no longer be held in one physical location. Mt. Diablo Unified School District is widespread among seven different cities and has a vast amount of social and economic diversity. This is also true for the African American families of MDUSD. Taking this into consideration, we believe that it would be more effective to for each MDUSD school site to host their own

African American Parent Advisory Council meeting. We believe that will expand AAPAC participation district- wide and increase parent advocacy. While we realize not every site has the capacity to host an AAPAC, we feel that this option gives Black families the opportunity to advocate and address site issues, while aligning them with the overall district objectives.

Who: Each MDUSD school site will have the opportunity to host their own AAPAC meeting. Each school site must have an AAPAC representative (Staff, Parent, or a community member), who is responsible for coordinating meetings and notifying Black families of those meetings. That individual is also responsible for attending the monthly MDUSD AAPAC Advisory Meetings and serving as them school representative.

Why: MDUSD is spread out among seven cities and therefore in order to increase parent advocacy and efficacy, we are modeling AAPAC after ELAC.

When: Each site must determine what date is most effective for their African American families and frequency of those gathering. The 2nd Thursday of each month will be reserved for the AAPAC Advisory Meeting. Site based AAPACs however would be required to post their meetings for the 2024– 25 school year by the end of September 2024.

Each site AAPAC are encouraged to attend three district-wide gatherings:

  •  3rd Annual Black Family Night Extravaganza. 9/29/24 @6PM
  •  3rd Annual MDUSD Kwanzaa Celebration 12/12/24 @ 6PM
  •  3rd Annual Black Excellence Awards 5/8/25 @ 6PM

How: Each site is strongly encouraged to meet in person however, a hybrid model may work best for an individual school. Meeting should not exceed 90 minutes.

What: Each school based AAPAC would be responsible for developing their own meeting agenda that addresses the site-based needs of their African American students.

District childcare/food will NOT be provided by MDUSD for the APPAC meetings. Food and childcare (if available) must be provided by each local school site. *Only active MDUSD certificated & classified staff may provide childcare.
