Low-tech core board
A core board is a low-tech communication tool that displays a grid of symbols, pictures, and words representing high-frequency, versatile words (core words), such as "want," "go," "help," "stop," and "more". These words make up about 80% of daily human speech and can be used across all environments. Core boards provide us the opportunity to use aided language modeling for a variety of communication functions including asking questions, commenting, and protesting. MDUSD has a district wide core board that is part of the classroom tool kits and available to all students. Preschool and elementary schools also have access to a slightly different core board for display and use on the playgrounds.
