Special Education Staff Training
Welcome to MDUSD Special Education Staff Training (SEST)
SEST is the product of a collaboration between the Mt. Diablo Unified School District and Mt. Diablo Adult Education. Our classes are designed to support MDUSD special education assistants (SEAs) in enhancing the skills necessary to serve students who receive special education services. MDUSD SEAs are paid to attend one class each school year. Our classes are open to the community and are offered at no cost to participants.
MDUSD Self-Guided Orientation (District required course for all new MDUSD Assistants): This online training is a pre-service requirement for all new MDUSD SEAs. This is typically completed on your first day of employment with the District on site at your location. The orientation is comprised of 11 training modules providing the basic information necessary to work with students receiving special education services.. This training can also be used in segments by site-based teams to support consistency in service delivery. The modules can be accessed via computer and/or mobile device. *Due to confidentiality requirements, this training is only accessible to MDUSD employees.

Supporting Students w/Augmentative & Alternative Communication Needs The journey to becoming a successful communicator looks different and can be long for some students. This course will arm you with the tools needed to support students who are non-speaking, limitedly speaking, unreliably speaking, or with unintelligible speech who are using varied AAC for communication from preschool through the transition program. Learn how to provide aided language modeling across activities and environments, recycle language to increase language exposure and word meaning, and practical ideas on how to incorporate student AAC devices across the day.
